Everyone say hello to Alyssa!
1. You are the first paralegal intern that CGG welcomed to the firm, and you stayed on with us full-time! What led you to pursue a career in the legal field?
I’ve had such a great time at CGG, from intern to full-time employee. Since I was young, I’ve always been drawn to family law. I’m naturally curious and love understanding people’s stories and how families are doing during difficult times. These are real people going through hard chapters in life, and I wanted to help support them. In high school, I connected with paralegals who showed me what their day-to-day looked like, and I knew this was the field for me.
2. You’ve developed a growing interest in e-Discovery and legal technology – what interests you most about this field, especially within family law?
I first learned about e-Discovery through my professor after talking about my interest in technology. I got my first hands-on experience at CGG reviewing and analyzing ESI (electronically stored information). I love finding details that stand out or don’t add up. It feels a bit like being a detective and catching things others may have missed.
3. What is something that your colleagues here at CGG might be surprised to learn about you?
My colleagues might be surprised to learn that I was the first Paralegal Studies student at Northern Virginia Community College to receive a grant for a certification in legal technology. After asking my professor about certifications, she connected me with a program that offered me the opportunity. It was such an unexpected honor.
4. What is your favorite local “Mom & Pop” shop or restaurant and why?
My favorite local spot is Atlacatl, a small Salvadoran-owned restaurant in Arlington. My family and I have been going there for years, and the pupusas are amazing. It’s become our go-to for family gatherings. 🙂
