Divorce Support Circle Talks “Cognitive Reframing”

When a life change occurs, you have two choices in how to respond: you can either respond with despair that a change has come or you can embrace the change and new possibilities that the change presents.  Change is an inevitable life experience and progress is optional. In a recent Divorce Support Circle facilitated by Dr. Lean Nathan, clients identified some difficult changes that they were being faced with through the divorce process. Using a psychological technique called “cognitive reframing,” clients were encouraged to look at their situation through a different lens and find more positive alternatives. Clients then participated in a “Brighter Days Ahead” collage activity by listing all the mixed emotions that comes with change and somethings that they are looking forward to in the future. Clients reported increased motivation to tackle this challenging hurdle.  The divorce support circle is facilitated by Dr. Nathan every second Tuesday of the month.
